The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for unity among the people of Plateau State to foster lasting peace, growth, and development. Her message was delivered during the 2024 Nzem Berom Cultural Festival held at the Polo Field in Jos.
The annual Nzem Berom Festival is a vibrant week-long celebration that showcases the cultural heritage of the Berom people—one of the largest ethnic groups in Plateau State. This year’s festival was themed “Celebrating the Prowess, Gallantry and Resilience of the Berom Woman: Past and Present.”
Represented by Hajiya Fatima Abbas, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Tinubu commiserated with the people of the state over recent tragic events and stressed the importance of community cohesion in the face of adversity. She described cultural festivals as platforms for reflection and a call to action in preserving indigenous values and traditions.
In his remarks, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang commended the Berom people for their significant contributions to the state’s development. He praised the leadership of the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Buba, for uniting the Berom nation and pledged to uphold the dignity of the traditional institution.
