Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reiterated the country’s dedication to inclusive economic growth and strategic global partnerships at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) held in Seville, Spain.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister Tuggar outlined Nigeria’s national roadmap to boost financial inclusion by strengthening the capacity of key development finance institutions, including the Bank of Industry and the Bank of Agriculture. His address emphasized targeted support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), especially those led by women and youth.
Tuggar also delivered the keynote at the launch of the Green Guarantee Group (GGG), reaffirming Nigeria’s push for green financing and sustainable development aligned with global climate goals.
On the sidelines of the event, the Minister held high-level bilateral meetings to deepen economic ties and development cooperation. During talks with the Executive Secretary of the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), both parties agreed in principle to formalize an MoU that would enable the provision of interest-free loans and broader financing mechanisms for Nigerian small businesses.
In a separate engagement with Sweden’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Tuggar discussed securing Swedish technical assistance to implement Nigeria’s recently signed tax reform policy. He also requested Sweden’s support for Nigeria’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (2030–2031 term).
These strategic interventions spotlight Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development, climate-resilient financing, and global cooperation aimed at empowering vulnerable populations and catalyzing economic growth.
