FIFA has officially unveiled Trionda, the high-tech match ball designed for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The launch took place at a special event in New York on Thursday.
Designed once again by Adidas, FIFA’s official match ball supplier since 1970, Trionda blends cutting-edge innovation with visual elements that celebrate the unique tri-nation tournament.
“I am delighted and proud to present the Trionda,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said during the unveiling.
This will be the first World Cup jointly hosted by three nations, and also the first to feature 48 teams, expanding from the traditional 32. Both the name “Trionda” and the ball’s aesthetic design reflect this historic collaboration.
Design Inspired by Host Nations
The ball features red, blue, and green hues representing the three host countries, along with symbolic iconography:
- Maple leaves from Canada,
- The eagle from Mexico,
- And stars from the United States.
A prominent triangle motif serves as a nod to the unity among the co-hosts.
Cutting-Edge Technology
Beyond its striking appearance, Trionda incorporates advanced technical features aimed at improving match performance:
- Deep seam construction for enhanced in-flight stability
- Embossed icons to improve grip in wet or humid conditions
- An embedded motion sensor chip that transmits real-time data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, aiding in crucial match decisions
Countdown to Kickoff
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, with matches played across 16 cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
