Nigerian skitmaker and satire content creator, Kevin Chinedu, widely known for his “Governor Amuneke” persona, has explained why he declined an offer to serve as a youth ambassador for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Chinedu said he was initially honoured when he received a message about the proposed appointment, describing it as a significant milestone in his career.
He noted that the recognition meant even more to him given his humble beginnings and the struggles he faced before gaining prominence online.
According to him, the role would have involved working alongside notable figures to engage young Nigerians on civic duties such as voter registration and participation in elections.
However, his excitement waned after he sought clarification on whether the position would affect his ability to produce critical political content.
Chinedu revealed that while he was told he could continue creating content and promoting civic awareness, he would not be permitted to directly criticise INEC.
He said this condition raised serious concerns, as his work is rooted in political satire, accountability, and amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens.
He added that accepting such restrictions would undermine the core purpose of his platform, which is shaped by real-life experiences and feedback from Nigerians and other Africans on governance issues. According to him, remaining silent on key matters would be more difficult than the challenges he currently faces as a critic.
The content creator also urged fellow influencers not to compromise their voices for recognition or financial incentives, stressing that many people rely on them to speak up on societal issues.
While declining the offer, Chinedu expressed gratitude to those who recommended him, noting that he values such recognition but is only open to collaborations that do not limit his creative and critical expression.
The development comes months after he disclosed rejecting financial inducements from political actors who allegedly attempted to influence his satirical content, reaffirming his commitment to independence.
