Experts Advocates Full Implementation Of Laws To Protect Girl Child

Governments at all levels have been urged to fully implement existing laws aimed at protecting the rights of the girl child and safeguarding them from violence and abuse.

Special Adviser on Education to the Ogun State Governor, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, made the call during the review and launch of a book titled “Safeguarding the Girl Child Against Societal Vices” by Dr. Zainab Balogun in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Dr. Soyombo emphasized that young girls face numerous challenges that require urgent intervention, stressing the need for a comprehensive strategy to protect them from all forms of abuse.

“The effective implementation of these laws will ensure that offenders are adequately punished and serve as a deterrent to others,” she stated.

Speaking at the event, Kwara State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Afolashade Opeyemi—represented by Director of Child Affairs, Hajiya Alabi Idiat—affirmed the state government’s commitment to enforcing strong legal measures to safeguard the girl child.

She reassured that the government would continue prioritizing policies that shield young girls from all forms of violation.

Earlier, the book’s author, Dr. Zainab Balogun, shared that her passion for ensuring a better life and protection for the girl child inspired her to write the book. She also appealed to authorities to establish more comprehensive policies to strengthen child protection efforts across society.
