Police Arrests Student Over Alleged Killing of Fellow Student in Nasarawa Polytechnic

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, for allegedly hacking a fellow student to death during a violent altercation.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement, revealing that the incident came to light after a resident, Madam Mercy Bassey, reported a fight between two of her tenants.

Upon receiving the report, detectives arrived at the scene and found Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Nasarawa, where doctors pronounced him dead due to the severity of his injuries.

The suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student, was swiftly arrested and reportedly confessed to attacking Matthew with an axe and a knife. Police recovered both bloodstained weapons as evidence.

Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution. Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been deposited in the morgue for an autopsy.
