Residents of Gezawa Local Government Area, Kano, are in mourning after two women tragically drowned in a local pond. The women, who have yet to be identified, were bathing in the open water after returning from their work at a hibiscus processing factory when the incident occurred.

Kano State Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed the incident following a distress call made by a community vigilante. Relatives of the victims alerted the vigilante, prompting an immediate response from the fire service team. The bodies were retrieved from the pond unconscious and were later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Abdullahi further stated that the bodies have been handed over to Police Constable Musa Garba of the Gezawa Police Division. He urged the public to exercise caution around open waters to prevent further tragedies.
