The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disowned a fake letter circulating online and falsely attributed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Liberia.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry clarified that the purported correspondence, allegedly addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia and linked to comments reportedly made by a Nigerian religious leader, did not originate from the Ministry or any official channel of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

According to the Ministry, the document is entirely fake, unauthorized, and should be disregarded by the public, media organizations, diplomatic missions, and other stakeholders. It warned that the fabricated letter appears designed to create unnecessary diplomatic tension between Nigeria and Liberia, two countries that have maintained longstanding cordial relations.

The Ministry noted that an initial review of the document revealed multiple inconsistencies with established diplomatic communication procedures and official correspondence protocols, further confirming its fraudulent nature.

It urged members of the public to exercise caution and avoid sharing unverified documents capable of spreading misinformation and damaging international relations. The Ministry also called on media organizations to verify sensitive diplomatic information through official channels before publication.

Furthermore, the Ministry disclosed that relevant authorities and security agencies have been alerted and are already investigating the source of the fake document with a view to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for its circulation.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and responsible diplomatic engagement, the Ministry assured the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia of Nigeria’s continued friendship, goodwill, and commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between both nations.

The Ministry emphasized that all official communications relating to Nigeria’s foreign policy and diplomatic engagements are transmitted through recognized and verified government channels, urging the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and fake documents circulating online.
