The Katsina State Executive Council has approved ₦500 million as counterpart funding to combat acute malnutrition and strengthen nutrition services across the state.

The approval was granted at the council’s 15th regular meeting presided over by Governor Dikko Radda.

The funding will support the procurement of nutrition commodities for 2026, aimed at ensuring the continued treatment of children suffering from acute malnutrition.

Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu, said the intervention would help maintain the availability of essential nutrition supplies.

He said the funding would also strengthen the state’s response to malnutrition and protect vulnerable children.

The council also approved the procurement of 95,000 bags of assorted grains for distribution to vulnerable households across the state.

Additional cash and non-food assistance was approved for widows, orphans, people with disabilities and other disadvantaged residents to ease the impact of economic hardship.

As part of efforts to boost economic activities, the council approved the modernisation of markets in Dandume, Daura, Mashi and Jibia.

It also approved the rehabilitation of 81 Jumu’at mosques across the state’s 34 local government areas.

The council further approved the establishment of the Katsina State Model United Nations Organisation (MUNDO) to promote leadership and diplomatic skills among young people.

It also endorsed new coordination and accountability frameworks for the World Bank-supported HOPE-GOV, HOPE-PHC and HOPE-EDU programmes.

The frameworks are expected to improve implementation, strengthen transparency and maximise the impact of the programmes.

In a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the administration said the approvals demonstrated its commitment to addressing social challenges, improving healthcare and expanding economic opportunities.
