In a major development for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has been elected as the new National Chairman of the party.
At the same convention, a former Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, was voted in as the National Secretary.
Their emergence, along with other elected officers, completes the formation of the new National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.
The election took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, during the party’s Elective National Convention, which drew over 3,000 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Dr. Turaki’s elevation to National Chairman was unanimous, following the withdrawal of his sole opponent, Senator Yakubu Lado. The electoral process was supervised by Senator Ben Obi, who led the convention proceedings.
This leadership transition marks a significant moment for the PDP as it positions itself for future political engagements.
