Nigeria hits 301 Universities as NUC recognizes Innovation-Focused Institution in Imo

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially recognized the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omuma, in Imo State, bringing the number of Universities in Nigeria to 301.

During the presentation of the operational licence in Abuja, NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for the initiative and encouraged the university’s management to maintain high academic standards as well as foster a strong research and innovation culture.

“The institution must be student-focused, offering cutting-edge programmes that equip graduates to contribute meaningfully to their communities and industries,” Ribadu said.

Governor Uzodimma described the recognition as a milestone in expanding access to quality education in Imo State.

He highlighted the university’s role in preparing young Nigerians for the digital economy and supporting tech-driven entrepreneurship.

“The University of Innovation, Science and Technology will be a catalyst for innovation, equipping students with job-creating skills,” the governor stated.

The new institution is expected to reinforce Imo’s position as a centre for technology and innovation in education.

‎The University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omuma, Imo State is now the 70th state university in the country.
