Port Harcourt, Nov. 19, 2023 – A group of elites in Andoni local government area of Rivers, Erastus Support Group (ESG) has enjoined politicians to see politics as a tool to impact the grassroots.
The group also commended Erastus Awortu, Chairman, Andoni local government area in Rivers for driving infrastructure and capacity development in the area.
The group made the commendation on Friday in Port Harcourt at a symposium in honor of the chairman who is currently serving in the last phase of his administration.
The group also endorsed the Chairman for a second term using his achievements as a yardstick to their endorsement.
In separate remarks, discussants eulogized the Chairman and also pledged support for a second term bid.
Prof. Alice Nte, a Consultant pediatrician and lecturer, University of Port Harcourt commended the Chairman for brokering peace in the area and for prioritising water supply, an effort which she said had helped to tackle cholera in the area.
Another stakeholder Dr. Emmanuel Urang noted that the Awortu led administration has delivered positive results in the area of infrastructure and human capacity development.
“For us, it is important that he continues for a second term to enable him ample time to address other areas of concern so that whoever comes after him will have no option than build on the legacies that would continue to transform the area and the people.
Similarly, a traditional ruler in the area Mr Stanley Ikwut also commended the Chairman for cooperation with the traditional rulers’ council in the quest for peace and development and enjoined the youths to rally round the Chairman as he strived to move Andoni forward.
Responding, the Chairman, Erastus Awortu thanked the group for supporting his political journey and vowed to continue driving infrastructure till his last stay in office.
Represented by the council Secretary, Mr Franklin Dimiari, the Chairman promised to leavrage on recommendations in the group’s communique with a view of delivering more democracy divided to the people.
