A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kanu Agabi, has formally applied to withdraw from representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, in his ongoing trial.
Agabi who is also the lead counsel for the separatist leader, made the application at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Agabi informed the court that his legal team was stepping down after Kanu decided to take back control of his case.
Following the decision, all other Senior Advocates on Kanu’s defence team also withdrew their appearances from the suit.
Confirming the development, the IPOB leader told the court that he had indeed taken back his case, indicating that he would be representing himself in the meantime but argued that the arrangement might change in the future.
When the presiding judge asked Kanu if he would like the court to assign him a new lawyer, he declined the offer, insisting that he would continue without legal representation for the time being.
