The Chairman of the House Committee on Anti-Corruption, Hon. Moshood Kayode Akiolu, has emphasized the urgent need for collective efforts from all stakeholders in the fight against corruption across government institutions and other sectors of the economy.
Speaking at a three-day national conference in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Akiolu highlighted that promoting transparency within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) requires enhanced institutional collaboration, comprehensive legislative reforms, and consistent oversight mechanisms.
According to the lawmaker, systemic corruption can only be effectively addressed when government institutions, civil society groups, anti-graft agencies, and the legislature work in synergy to uphold accountability and transparency in public service operations.
Also addressing participants, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Dr. Mainasara Umar Kogo, described transparency as the foundation of ethical governance. He noted that fostering openness in government processes not only strengthens public trust but also empowers citizens to demand accountability from their leaders.
In his opening remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uko Udom, represented by Mrs. Utomobong Inyang, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting good governance through transparent practices. He urged attendees to actively uphold integrity in their respective institutions.
