President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, for a state visit aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties with the South American nation.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Tinubu landed at Brasília International Airport at 12:30 am on Monday, after departing Los Angeles, United States.

He was received at the Brasília Air Base by senior Brazilian officials, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s envoy to Nigeria. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, also joined in welcoming the president.

Other Nigerian ministers, heads of key government agencies, and private sector stakeholders later received the president at his hotel ahead of high-level engagements.

According to Onanuga, an official welcoming ceremony with full military honours will take place at the Planalto Palace, where Tinubu will hold a closed-door meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Expanded bilateral sessions involving senior government officials from both sides will follow.

The leaders are expected to witness the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in key sectors, after which they will jointly address the press.

During the visit, President Tinubu will also meet with Brazil’s top political and judicial leaders, including the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Federal Court.

The president’s itinerary also includes participation in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, which seeks to deepen trade, investment, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
