A Nigerian-born public servant, Rosaline, is set to be officially installed as Mayor of Islington in the United Kingdom, marking what Nigeria’s diaspora agency has described as another significant political achievement for Nigerians abroad.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) congratulated Rosaline on her elevation to the mayoralty, saying her rise reflects the growing impact of Nigerians in public service across the world.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised Rosaline’s achievement, describing it as a testament to hard work, excellence and dedication to community service.
“She is a proud ambassador of Nigeria whose journey continues to inspire,” Dabiri-Erewa said in a statement issued in Abuja.
Rosaline was first elected councillor for St Peter’s and Canalside Ward and went on to serve on several key committees, including Homes and Communities Scrutiny and Licensing. She later became Deputy Mayor before emerging as Mayor of Islington.
NiDCOM said her appointment represents a major milestone for the Nigerian diaspora community in the UK and highlights the increasing contributions of Nigerians to governance and civic leadership abroad.
Before entering politics, Rosaline worked extensively in the voluntary sector, including with the Islington Citizens Advice Bureau, where she continues to serve as an adviser. She also held a role in the marketing department of the London Symphony Orchestra as a customer service and office coordinator and participated in the organisation’s community choir for more than two decades.
Her professional background also includes a career in broadcasting with Radio Nigeria before relocating to the UK. She has additionally served on the board of trustees of St Luke’s Centre.
Dabiri-Erewa said Rosaline’s success demonstrates the positive influence Nigerians are making globally.
“She has distinguished herself as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria,” she said, while wishing her a “successful and impactful tenure”.
Rosaline is expected to be officially installed as Mayor of Islington.
NiDCOM also urged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting the country positively through excellence and service in their respective professions.
