The Kano State government has strongly denounced the brutal killings of at least 16 people in Uromi, Edo State, calling for swift justice against those responsible.
The victims, mainly hunters from Rivers State, were ambushed and killed by a local vigilante group and armed youths in a shocking act of violence.
In an official statement signed by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Kano government expressed its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased.
The statement urged President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to publicly condemn the killings and ensure justice is served.
“All individuals found complicit in this atrocity must face the full weight of the law, including any security personnel who may have failed in their duty,” the commissioner said.
Comrade Waiya emphasized that such acts of mob violence undermine the sanctity of human life and erode public trust in law enforcement. He called for a swift, transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Kano government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security measures and ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
“The government stands united with the people of Nigeria in condemning this heinous act. Immediate and decisive action is needed to prevent a recurrence. The protection of human life and community values remains our highest priority,” the statement concluded.
