President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed strong confidence that the Super Eagles will be fully prepared to clinch Africa’s slot in the Intercontinental Play-offs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Gusau reaffirmed that the trademark resilience and determination of the Nigerian team, which earned them a place in the play-offs, will once again shine through.
He added that the NFF, in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), would leave no stone unturned to ensure the three-time African champions were in top form ahead of their crucial fixtures.
Nigeria is set to face Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in the first semi-final clash. The winner will then meet either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, November 16, for a chance to represent Africa in the Intercontinental Play-offs.
“Everything is being done by the NSC and the NFF to ensure perfect preparation. No detail will be overlooked. The same fighting spirit that saw the team score four vital goals against Benin Republic to qualify will drive us to victory in the play-offs,” Gusau assured.
He further confirmed that the Super Eagles’ training camp will open in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday, November 9.
Discussions with players are ongoing, and the atmosphere within the team remains positive and focused.
“The players are highly motivated. Every footballer dreams of playing at the FIFA World Cup, and this is their chance to make Nigeria proud once again,” he added.
The Super Eagles’ semi-final against Gabon will be played at either the 18,000-capacity El-Barid Stadium or the 22,000-capacity Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat. The final will also be hosted at the Stade Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the draw to determine which semi-final will be played in each stadium will take place on Thursday, October 30.
