The Oyo State Police Command has alleged that a personal assistant to a member of the family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, collaborated with kidnappers who abducted Adelabu’s sister and her two sons in Ibadan.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday. He said investigations conducted by the police uncovered the alleged involvement of the aide in the planning and execution of the abduction.
The victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped on June 3 along the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan, while she was taking the children to school.
According to the police spokesman, intelligence gathered during the investigation pointed to the collaboration between the family aide and the criminal gang responsible for the incident.
Ayanlade explained that a coordinated operation by the Nigeria Police Force led to the successful rescue of the victims. During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while several others were arrested.
The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to apprehend all individuals connected to the crime.
The development has highlighted growing concerns over insider involvement in kidnapping operations, as security agencies continue to intensify efforts to combat abduction and other violent crimes across the country.
