The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the state’s 44 local government areas, citing the need to protect public morality and uphold Islamic values.

The directive was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, who said the decision followed complaints that some operators were using mobile phones to circulate pornographic films and other video content considered offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano State.

Aminuddeen said the board had deployed Hisbah personnel across the state to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations.

He warned that anyone found violating the directive would face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State.

The deputy commander-general urged those affected by the ban to seek alternative lawful means of earning a living, stressing that the measure is aimed at protecting young people from harmful content and preserving societal values.

According to him, the growing rate of moral decadence among youths has been linked to the consumption of indecent films and videos.

The Kano State Hisbah Board, which enforces Sharia-related regulations in the state, has over the years introduced a series of measures aimed at promoting Islamic values and restricting activities and content considered contrary to the state’s religious and cultural norms.
