14 Killed, 13 Injured In Niger State Road Crash Involving Three Trailers

A tragic road accident along the Agaie-Lapai road in Niger State has claimed the lives of 14 people and left 13 others injured. The crash, which occurred on Monday, involved three trailer trucks in a head-on collision caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking.

One of the trailers was transporting livestock, resulting in the deaths of 15 cows and over 20 goats when the driver attempted a dangerous maneuver.

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed the incident in a message to journalists, stating that emergency responders and volunteers were deployed for rescue operations.

“NSEMA received a report of a road crash on February 3, 2025, along the Agaie-Lapai road near Al’Farma International School. It was a head-on collision involving three trailer trucks, one of which was carrying cattle and goats. The cause of the crash has been attributed to wrongful overtaking,” Baba-Arah said.

He further disclosed that two victims died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The 13 injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Agaie General Hospital.

Authorities have urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies on the nation’s highways.
