The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian assistance and community resilience through the inauguration of key development projects for vulnerable populations and host communities in Ghana.
The projects, implemented under the ECOWAS Humanitarian Project on Persons of Concern (PoCs), include the construction of boreholes, schools and livelihood support initiatives aimed at improving living conditions and strengthening self-reliance among beneficiaries.

Representing the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, an ECOWAS delegation led by Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, ECOWAS Resident Representative to Ghana, and Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Ag, Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs at the ECOWAS Commission, visited beneficiary communities in the Ahafo Ano North area on June 22 and 23, 2026.
The delegation, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Adusei, paid courtesy visits to traditional leaders before commissioning the projects and assessing their impact on local communities.
Speaking during the visits, ECOWAS officials highlighted the importance of regional solidarity and collective efforts in addressing the humanitarian needs of displaced persons and other vulnerable groups across West Africa.
According to the Commission, the interventions are designed to improve access to clean water, expand educational opportunities and create sustainable sources of income for affected families, while also supporting host communities that share resources with persons of concern.
Community leaders and residents welcomed the projects, describing them as timely interventions that would enhance livelihoods, reduce hardship and promote social cohesion.
ECOWAS said the initiative reflects its broader commitment to fostering resilience, human security and sustainable development across member states, particularly in communities facing humanitarian challenges.
The Commission reiterated its resolve to continue working with national authorities, local leaders and development partners to provide lasting solutions for vulnerable populations and strengthen regional stability.
