Senate Confirms Idris Olorunnimbe as Chairman of NCC Board

The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Idris Olorunnimbe as the new Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) after a successful screening by the Senate Committee on Communications.

The confirmation was announced during Tuesday’s plenary session, where the Senate also approved the appointments of Maryam Bayi (North East), Senator Ramoni Mustafa (South West), and Ikechukwu Ugwuegede (South East) as Commissioners on the NCC Board.

In addition, Princess Oforitsenere Emiko and Christopher Sandy Okorie, both representing the South South region, were confirmed as board members.

The newly approved Chairman and Commissioners will work alongside the NCC Executive Management Team, which includes, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman (North West), Abraham Oshadami, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services (North Central) and Rimini Makama, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management (North Central)

These confirmations complete the leadership structure of the Nigerian Communications Commission, which would play a critical role in regulating Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, ensuring fair competition, protecting consumers, and driving innovation in the nation’s digital economy.

With the new board in place, the NCC is expected to further strengthen its regulatory oversight and accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s digital and communications sector.
